Word of the Day 22/03/2012 (2) - bacchante

bacchante n. a frenzied woman, as at a rousing orgy or a kind of drunken, chuck- your-chariot-keys-into-the-arena, cult ceremony.

“Ah, my dear Lotty!  How lovely to see you. You look resplendent in your Star Wars T-shirt and no knickers. Now, a confession: I know I got you to visit on the pretext of this being a Tasting Session at my new Wine Club. Or, as I like to call it, the Gathering in Honour of Bacchus. Indeed, there will be some tasting, but not as you were expecting. You, my dearest Lotty, will be having a starring role in a little historical re-enactment. I shall play your Liege and you, you my little darling, will be playing the chief part of a bacchante.

Yes.  Yes, I know.  I make all of your dreams come true.  Now come here and thank me properly.”
